The Trade Bill will soon return to the House of Commons, where MPs will
have an opportunity to VOTE TO ENSURE THEY GET THE POWER TO SCRUTINISE
TRADE DEALS BEFORE THEY ARE SIGNED AND REJECT THEM IF THEY INCLUDE OUR NHS.

Today, we are launching our Scrutiny Pledge, and we need you to email your
MP right now, _ESPECIALLY IF THEY'RE CONSERVATIVE_, and ask them to take
the pledge.

Passing the scrutiny amendment means that the public and parliament will be
able to see the details of any future trade deals, and campaign or vote
against anything that would see our public services, ESPECIALLY OUR NHS,
being further privatised.

In July, the House of Commons voted down a scrutiny amendment tabled by the
Conservative MP for Huntingdon, Jonathan Djanogly. At that time, 12
Conservatives did the right thing and rebelled against their party by
voting for it. NOW WE WANT MORE OF THEM TO REBEL AND VOTE FOR SCRUTINY. 

THE MARGINS OF SUCCESS ON THIS AMENDMENT ARE LIKELY TO BE VERY SLIM, SO
EVERY EMAIL SENT TO AN MP IS GOING TO BE ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL.

We have been campaigning for both the scrutiny amendment and the NHS
protection amendment. But it is very important to keep in mind that THE
SCRUTINY AMENDMENT IS ALSO CRUCIAL TO PROTECTING THE NHS AS IT GIVES MPS
THE POWER TO SCRUTINISE AND REJECT DEALS IF THEY INCLUDE OUR NHS.

Getting concrete commitments from MPs to back the scrutiny amendment allows
us to get a clear sense of the amount of support the amendment has and its
chances of passing. Knowing their voting intention will allow us to
redouble our efforts, if need be, in time to force more MPs TO DO THE RIGHT
THING and vote for THE POWER TO PROTECT OUR NHS.

margins of success on this amendment are likely to be very slim, so every
email sent to an MP is going to be absolutely crucial.
