An Opportunity for Community and Reflection

Amid a challenging year, we hope that you and all of our communities are finding safe ways this week to celebrate family and community and reflect together. As part of that reflection, we're inviting our members and supporters to consider the circumstances that led to the creation of Thanksgiving and how those effects can still be felt today.

One recent article from the New York Times highlights the grim history of the holiday and how it symbolizes the brutality of American settlers against Indigenous peoples, and how in the midst of a pandemic, those racial injustices are still a part of daily life for many people of color.

Thanksgiving offers a time for gathering and reflection. We hope you all have the opportunity to celebrate with your families (safely), and hope you will also join with us in learning, exploring, talking, and reflecting on the history of Thanksgiving and the Indigenous experience historically and today.

NPH Fall Gala

Last week, NPH held our Fall Gala + Leadership Awards virtually for the first time ever. Even though this year presented a host of challenges for our industry, we’ve continued to grow our movement and rise to meet the needs of our communities. This Fall Gala was an opportunity for us to celebrate precisely this fact, that our affordable housing movement remains steadfast and unencumbered in our mission for housing for all.

Over 200 of our members, partners, and supporters gathered via Zoom to celebrate our affordable housing movement as well as honor some extraordinary housers who‘ve accomplished so much for our industry.

Whether you were able to attend or not, you can relive the evening and help us uplift the affordable housing industry by watching our videos from that night.

NPH would once again like to express a big THANK YOU to our incredible sponsors and donors who made this event possible. View full list of sponsors and donors here.

"The Road Ahead" Member Webinar

NPH’s latest paper, The Road Ahead, examines the local intersection of housing justice, racial justice, and public health and offers concrete recommendations on how to embed a regional housing strategy ahead.

Please join us for a very exciting member webinar on Friday, December 4 (2-3:30pm) to discuss The Road Ahead, our regional policy recommendations, and address any questions and comments regarding regional policy advocacy priorities. This webinar aims to help our members unpack the paper's recommendations and provides a space for members to offer feedback.

We also wanted to alert you to a critical advocacy opportunity. Will you help us secure a Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) methodology that advances racial equity and housing justice?

Send in a comment letter on your own letterhead to [email protected] and cc [email protected], by November 27. Include “Proposed RHNA Methodology and Subregional Shares” in the subject line. Feel free to use NPH’s sample comment letter, to draft your organization's own letter.

NPH Joins the Bring CA Home Initiative

NPH is proud to partner with Bring CA Home — a new initiative to ensure we have the resources to combat homelessness at scale and ensure no family is left without a place to call home during a time of crisis.

Over the last few years, California has invested billions of dollars to address homelessness in our communities. While these one-time funding allocations have delivered real results, we need a sustainable, reliable strategy designed to deliver results over the long-term.

The Bring CA Home plan calls for California to invest $2.4 billion annually, which, combined with federal and local resources, would reverse the cycle of homelessness for our state. This annual $2.4 billion policy proposal could fund prevention, interim housing, permanent housing, and services.
