AFSCME Family,
Thanksgiving will look different for most of us in 2020. COVID-19 cases are surging, leaving millions of Americans unable to celebrate with our usual large gatherings of family and friends.
But even in a year as difficult as this one, we are so thankful for the dedication and commitment of AFSCME members who rushed to the front lines to serve their communities when this devastating pandemic struck our shores.
EMTs, nurses and doctors worked tirelessly to save lives. School administrators, support staff, bus drivers and food service workers kept students learning and fed as our education systems were turned upside down. Social workers, mental health professionals, child care providers and home care workers continued to care for our most vulnerable.
AFSCME workers do so many different jobs to keep our communities safe, strong and healthy, and even with a pandemic that has killed more than 250,000 Americans, we never quit. We put our lives on the line because we believe in public service.
We are so grateful for the sacrifices and generosity of spirit AFSCME members have shown this year. Our celebrations may be smaller, but our hearts are full as ever.
In solidarity,
Lee Saunders
