Americans Must Remain Thankful

By Newt Gingrich

This Thanksgiving will be unlike any we have experienced in recent (or even distant) memory.

America has faced profound challenges caused by the spread of COVID-19 – and the efforts to contain it. We have been isolated and separated from our friends, families, and colleagues. Many Americans have lost their jobs – or more importantly their lives. And even more of us have had to say goodbye to loved ones taken by the pandemic.

At the same time, we are living through a fraught political environment, which is laying bare just how deep some of our differences are. Anxiety and stress levels have not been this pervasive or enduring in decades of our history.

So, for most Americans, the Thanksgiving table will have fewer seats – either because people are isolating or because they are no longer with us. And, there is more potential for disagreement as families across the nation are stressed out and split on politics.

This may seem strange coming from me, as a sometimes-aggressive political voice, but I have one serious request for every American: This week, set all differences aside and remain thankful.

No matter how fiercely we disagree about matters of policy or the right direction for the country, our loved ones – and the time we share with them – are more important. If this year has taught us anything it is that we have no control over whether the person sitting across the table will be there next year or not. So, instead of arguing, let’s share the time, fellowship, and blessings we have and be thankful for them.

So, as we gather with loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving – either safely in person or digitally – let us give thanks that we are blessed to be American.

The First Thanksgiving – The Real Story

What was the first Thanksgiving really like for the pilgrims? What struggles did they endure to make the transatlantic journey from Europe to Plymouth, Massachusetts? And once they arrived, what happened to them? The first Thanksgiving is a window to the American past and was much different than the holiday we celebrate today. Newt’s guest is Dr. Tracy McKenzie, Professor and Chair of History at Wheaton College in Illinois.

When Condemning Terrorism Is Just too Much
By Aaron Kliegman

Some commentators in America are portraying Macron as a bigot who sees good Muslims and bad Muslims. And the good ones fully adhere to French secularism and abandon their faith while the bad ones remain faithful. This is nonsense. To Macron, a “bad Muslim” is someone who beheads people after pledging allegiance to ISIS or some other jihadist group — and anyone who supports their actions. That’s not a high bar. Yet, to the supposedly enlightened West, especially our journalists, it somehow is.

Perfecting Turkey for Two
By Louie Brogdon

COVID-19 will doubtlessly shrink Thanksgiving feasts across the country this week. Many families will simply decide it’s not worth potentially putting loved ones in danger for the sake of sharing a meal – tradition or no.
Aside from emotional heartache and an injured sense of nostalgia, this creates a new, practical dilemma which will foil many family cooks. Why spend hours cooking a giant turkey for just a few people?

What to Watch Over the Thanksgiving Holiday
By Debbie Myers

As satisfying as eating a second (or third) slice of warmed pecan pie with vanilla ice cream (and whipped cream), Thanksgiving movies and specials are like comfort food – especially this year when many of us will not be surrounded by family. Here is a guide to some of my holiday favorites, as well as some new binge–worthy new favorites.

Feeding America

November is a busy time for many Americans as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends. As we gather to give thanks for our many blessings this year, the Gingrich Foundation is proud to recognize Feeding America as its November Charity of the Month.

Feeding America works to keep millions of less fortunate Americans from going hungry. It is the leading domestic hunger relief charity in the United States, with 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs throughout the country.

Feeding America also provides important coordination between other relief organizations and large food manufacturers in order to ensure that food reaches those who are most in need. Each year, Feeding America helps feed 46 million Americans, about 5 million of whom are seniors and 12 million of whom are children. Importantly, due to COVID-19, more than 50 million people in America may be in need – including 17 million children.

Order Now : Trump and the American Future: Solving the Great Problems of Our Time

Everything is changing.

From the spread of the coronavirus, to the highs and lows of the economy, and on to the election, 2020 will continue this process of change.

We don’t know yet which way the American people will go, but we can describe what is at stake as the radical democratic left continues to go all out to destroy President Trump and his followers. This wild period of change has been intensified by the virulent spread of COVID-19, but its roots go back to the summer of 2015.

This book puts this kaleidoscope of change into context and outlines the choices Americans face in what may be the most decisive election of our lifetimes. No presidential contest since 1860 has presented the American people with a decision more definitive than the 2020 election offers. It is the radical democratic left vs President Trump.

To understand what is at stake, and what must be done, read this book and share it with your friends and neighbors.
