Tell the Biden-Harris Transition Team:
"Bruce Reed has a history of putting deficit reduction ahead of economic recovery, including as Executive Director of the Bowles-Simpson Social Security commission. We are extremely concerned by the reports that Reed is a frontrunner to head the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under the Biden administration, given his history of antipathy towards economic security programs that working people rely on. We demand that OMB be staffed with people who will prioritize working people, not Wall Street deficit scaremongers."

John,
Trump’s crony at the GSA finally signed the letter allowing the Biden-Harris Transition to formally begin. It took her 3 weeks to accept the results of the election, but it didn’t take that long for the deficit hawks to start circling the incoming administration.
The same afternoon that TV networks called the race for Biden, former Ohio Gov. John Kasich was on CNN saying that the country had “enormous problems with debt, Social Security, [and] Medicare.”1
Kasich, of course, had run for President in 2016 saying that after he cut Social Security, people would “get over it.”2 Biden invited him to speak at the Democratic convention anyway.
Republicans spent the Obama era complaining that the deficit meant that we needed to cut Social Security and Medicare―and the worst thing is, Obama took these bad faith arguments seriously!
One of the chief deficit scaremongers, Bruce Reed, served as Executive Director of the Bowles-Simpson Fiscal Commission, which recommended cutting Social Security and Medicare to tackle the debt. And now, he’s reported to be a finalist for OMB Director.3
SIGN NOW: The Biden-Harris administration shouldn’t let Bruce Reed or any other deficit hawk within a mile of their administration!
We’re in the midst of a pandemic. Food pantries are seeing demand that they haven’t seen since the Great Depression. The Trump administration gave a $2 trillion tax cut to the super-rich. The last thing the Biden administration should consider is empowering the voices who have sought to undermine the vital economic security programs that Americans are counting on during these difficult times.
Joe Biden ran for President on a promise to EXPAND Social Security and Medicare―not cut them. Sign now to tell him that putting Bruce Reed in charge of OMB would betray that promise.
Thanks,
