Dear John,

Last month, we wrote to you about the case of Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley in Nevada.

Government officials in the state capped church attendance at 50 believers, while casinos could open at 50 percent capacity (no matter how many people are in the building!).

This glaring double standard is unconstitutional, John. But it gets worse.

Calvary Chapel—and other churches in the state—faced criminal and civil penalties if they dared to open their doors to more worshippers!

Six months ago, with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, Calvary Chapel filed a lawsuit to put a stop to the unjust restrictions on Nevada churches. And sadly, this church is still fighting for its religious freedom.

In July, we filed an emergency application with the U.S. Supreme Court, asking the high court to grant relief to Calvary Chapel while the case goes forward. This would have allowed the church to gather at half capacity—the same as secular businesses—until the lawsuit is resolved. But in a disappointing 5-4 vote, the Justices turned us down.

But bad news or a disappointing decision doesn’t mean we give up, John.

While many ADF cases spend years in litigation, churches like Calvary Chapel need quick and immediate relief. Every day is critical for Calvary Chapel as they work to reach the lost and share the hope of the Gospel during this critical time in our nation’s history.

That’s why ADF attorneys have once again asked the U.S. Supreme Court to correct Nevada’s unconstitutional treatment of churches.

In America, the government can’t treat churches and people of faith as second-class citizens. The First Amendment makes that clear.

But some government officials—like those in Nevada—continue to threaten the free exercise of religion and discriminate against churches, ministries, and religious schools.

To combat these threats to religious freedom, ADF is trusting God for $150,000 this #GivingTuesday to help protect religious schools, ministries, and churches like Calvary Chapel.

DOUBLE YOUR GIFT

People of faith must not sit back and allow their God-given freedoms to be taken away

ADF was founded to keep the doors open for the Gospel. And ADF attorneys stand ready to go to battle on behalf of churches and religious ministries when their freedom is threatened.

But this work is only possible with God’s blessing (John 15:5) and your faithful prayers and support.

John, it only takes a quick glance at the news to see how fragile your most cherished freedoms are. And how desperately we need to fight for them when they’re threatened—especially by our own government.

Even before COVID-19, we were seeing incidents of government officials trying to control churches, discriminating against families that choose a religious education for their children, and targeting religious ministries for operating according to their beliefs.

This must stop.

Your brothers and sisters in Christ are counting on you to help defend religious freedom in America.

This #GivingTuesday, will you stand with them?

This special day is a chance for people like you to come together on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to financially support causes you are passionate about.

Your generous, tax-deductible gift this #GivingTuesday helps us continue the fight for freedom in the courtroom on behalf of churches, ministries, and religious schools. And it shows government officials that people of faith will not sit back and allow their God-given freedoms to be taken away.

But the deadline to meet our $150,000 goal is 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1.

So please don’t wait.

Make your tax-deductible gift of $20, $50, $100, or more to defend religious freedom this #GivingTuesday. Because of the blessing of the $25,000 matching grant, your gift today will be DOUBLED—dollar for dollar—until the match is met.

Thank you for giving generously!
