This is a rare instance of the U.S. leading the way with respect to women’s representation. But her appointment is in keeping with global research that shows women are especially likely to be selected for leadership in the middle of crises. Is she being set up to fail?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, rates of intimate partner violence and femicide have increased dramatically. To end violence in society, we must address the drivers: the perpetrators of violence who are most often men and boys.

This latest case against Harvard demonstrates that color-blindness cannot uproot this country’s legacy of racism. We must face race head-on to meaningfully address the racial inequality that persists in our society.
