Legendary ESPN reporter Wright Thompson joined me on The Truth of the Matter to discuss his new book, Pappyland: A Story of Family, Fine Bourbon and the Things That Last. In this episode, you’ll learn that “Pappyland” is “barely a book about bourbon” but rather about so many other facets of American life. Among them: tradition and legacy, family and relationships, our public discourse and the power of brand.

** Smiles
------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, I wrote about “Songs of Our Own,” a Grateful Dead covers project by Jambase and Telefunken which asked an array of artists to cover Dead originals in honor of the band’s 50
th anniversary in 2015.

I’m fascinated by this third generation of Deadheads, and the “Songs of Our Own” project is just one example of how the Dead’s music is resonating with people who weren’t even born when Jerry Garcia died in 1995. If you don’t think hip, young musicians are into the Dead, look no further than this cover of “Ashes to Ashes ([link removed]) ” by the West End Blend.

Talk about breathing new life and a bright new countenance into a song the Dead first performed in 1982…what a smile.
