Yesterday, San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin made history when
he announced that he is filing homicide charges against the police officer
who shot and killed Keita O’Neil in 2017.

The fact that this has never happened before in a city that is as
progressive as San Francisco, tells you just how difficult it is to create
real accountability for acts of police violence. It’s a huge step forward.
And Real Justice supporters like you helped make it happen.

In 2019, Real Justice endorsed Chesa for his vision to transform the
criminal legal system in San Francisco. Ever since he took office, he’s
been sending shockwaves through the political establishment and raising
the bar for reform.

The change Chesa is leading in San Francisco is a powerful example why who
we elect to local prosecutor roles matters.

District Attorneys have the most power of any elected official to disrupt
mass incarceration and hold police accountable. By electing reform
champions to these seats of power, police departments are increasingly
feeling the pressure to reform and consider the consequences for their
misconduct. This is what real progress looks like.

But ever since Chesa took office, the GOP and their racist, establishment
allies have started investing more money than ever to defeat our
endorsed-candidates and attack our reform movement.

We have big plans to elect more justice-focused candidates like Chesa, but
