Dear John,
As Giving Tuesday approaches, I want to talk about religious freedom. Along with life and the family, fighting for religious freedom is what gets me out of bed in the morning. Religious freedom is a beautiful thing--it's guaranteed to all Americans by the Bill of Rights, and more than anything else it's what has allowed America to flourish and prosper. But as you know, this freedom is under threat.
When a Christian business owner declines to participate in a same-sex wedding, they do so not out of hatred or bigotry, but rather because their deeply-held religiously-informed belief that God's design of marriage between a man and a woman is good for everyone. This is how God made the world--accept no man-made substitutes! But time and time again, we've seen bakers, florists, and photographers penalized for exercising their religious freedom.
This type of threat to religious freedom is certain to increase under a Biden/Harris administration, on top of the state-level restrictions we've already seen during the pandemic.
That's why I'm asking you today to #GiveForFreedom. Giving Tuesday is coming up, and as you and your family make decisions about gifts and decorations, take a moment to think about how precious it is to have the freedom to worship, and to practice your faith in other ways.
