Hi John,
With COVID-19 keeping schools closed or only partially opened, states have had to find new ways to continue to provide a quality education for students. Among many states, Texas is investing heavily in remote learning. Conservative Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced $420 million in CARES Act money to "reimburse Texas public schools that purchased Wi-Fi hotspots or eLearning devices like tablet and laptop computers for remote learning."
This will help close the digital learning gap that’s been widening because of the pandemic. Back in May, Governor Abbott implemented a program that benefits school children who don’t have easy access to wifi, tablets, or laptops. This new funding will build on that program, allowing students in the public school system to continue learning from home. Many are feeling the effects of the global pandemic, but students shouldn’t fall behind in school because of where they live or their limited access to technology.
Educating the future of America should be a high priority for every state, and we shouldn’t allow anything to get in the way of that.
Sincerely,
Casey
