Dear John,
So many of you have reached out to me to ask how you can help El Paso in the midst of one of the worst Covid outbreaks in the country.
As you may have read, so many are dying in El Paso right now that the county has been forced to set up ten mobile morgues. Hospitals are at capacity, and hundreds of healthcare workers have come to El Paso to help on a temporary basis.
The easiest and perhaps best thing we can do for those who are at risk and for the healthcare workers charged with these tough jobs right now is to wear a mask whenever we are out of our homes, to stay at home if we can, and to continue to follow the best public health guidance.
But for those who want to help ease the burden on families who have recently lost a loved one, there is an organization called Operation HOPE which is helping to cover the costs of funerals and burials for El Paso families who otherwise would not be able to afford them. In a city that is losing dozens of people per day, and is quickly approaching more than a thousand dead, this is a need that is not being met by local, state or federal governments.
Thank you for your concern and your generosity.
