Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has largely laid low since becoming the first woman vice president-elect in history.
In anticipation of her future role in the White House, political observers are now suggesting Harris could likely take a leading role in our country’s coronavirus recovery -- considering her powerful criticism of Trump’s failed response.
Earlier this year, Harris said what most of us were thinking: “All we needed was a competent president. One who was willing to listen, willing to lead, take responsibility, have a plan, do their job ... Donald Trump has failed at the most basic and important job of a president of the United States. It’s his obligation to protect us. Yet, he has failed miserably.”
Thankfully, we’ll soon have a new administration taking the lead -- one that values keeping Americans safe. According to a political science professor from Vanderbilt University, “health care is an issue that women politicians tend to ‘own’, and giving Harris a leading role here may give Americans some needed confidence in our national response.” While some say Harris should leave the pandemic response to the current COVID-19 task force, we believe she could bring Americans peace of mind.
