According to CNN, it’s official: “House Democrats nominated Nancy Pelosi to serve as Speaker in the next session of Congress.”

We’re so glad that Speaker Pelosi is going to hold the gavel in the next Congress. She’s been an icon for the progressive resistance under Trump -- whether it was tearing up Trump’s speech at the State of the Union, passing the HEROES Act followed by months of playing hardball with Steve Mnuchin in an effort to get Americans the relief they deserve, or literally standing up to the President and his generals (which Trump tried to spin as an “unhinged meltdown!”), Speaker Pelosi has accomplished the goal she set when she declared: “I want women to see that you do not get pushed around.”

What a role model.

But we know Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, will continue to be a thorn in Speaker Pelosi’s side -- and potentially much more than that. Even now, McConnell has refused to meet with Pelosi to discuss relief for the American people -- and has blamed Democrats for the lack of action on the issue, even though the House passed a relief bill all the way back in May.

We want to go to bat for Speaker Pelosi. To back the legislation she’s pushing for, to support the Democrats fighting beside her, to oppose the Republicans working to stop her. But unlike Mitch McConnell’s allies, we don’t have mega-donor money to wire to Washington. Instead, our power comes from grassroots contributions.
