No More Lockdowns
What to Know: Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott assured a weary public that there were no more COVID-19 related lockdowns coming. His reasoning? “There are now known severe medical consequences, emotional, mental-type consequences, as well as the devastating financial consequences.” ([link removed] )
The TPPF Take: Gov. Abbott is right. No more lockdowns.
“Lockdowns cost lives and livelihoods,” says TPPF’s Shelby Sterling. “If the goal here is to promote public health and wellbeing, then another lockdown isn’t the way. There are other, more effective ways to protect our most vulnerable and slow the virus’ spread that don’t involve destroying liberty or prosperity.”

Oh Really?
What to Know: A recent Dallas Morning News piece touts the benefits of “clean energy” and the transition away from oil and gas. ([link removed] )
The TPPF Take: The article uses several terms, including clean energy, that require closer consideration.
“Wind and solar might be 'cleaner' than fossil fuels in terms of air pollution—though the U.S. has reduced air pollution so much that our air quality is very close to natural levels—but wind and solar are far from being ‘clean’ in an absolute sense,” says TPPF’s Brent Bennett. “They require far more land and materials than denser forms of energy such as fossil fuels and nuclear, posing threats to wildlife and natural habitats.”

Come On, Colorado
What to Know: The state agency that oversees oil and gas production in Colorado is apologizing after sending out an email calling the companies names and ridiculing them. ([link removed] )
The TPPF Take: The problem in Colorado isn’t just the agency’s email, it’s the fact that the agency plans to increase and in some cases quadruple setback rules limiting where oil and gas can be harvested.
“This move would be a death blow to the state’s second-largest industry, which is already facing an uphill battle thanks to the COVID-19 shutdowns,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Oil and gas production employs more than 30,000 Coloradoans, supports hundreds of thousands of additional jobs, and produces 5-10 percent of the state’s economy.”
