Friends,
The 2021 General Assembly session is just over a month away — and it’s sure to be a whirlwind.
We have just 30 days this winter to enact the boldest climate legislation package the state has yet seen. This will be the shortest regular session in Virginia in half a century. And it’ll all happen via Zoom.
This means we need to prepare.
Join us on December 3 for a legislative preview with Green New Deal Co-Director Lee Williams.
Earlier this month, we learned about the Green New Deal Act, an omnibus energy bill that will create thousands of Virginia jobs, put a moratorium on fossil fuel infrastructure, and require a 100% renewable grid by 2036.
But the Green New Deal is not just one bill. It’s a whole suite of legislation that addresses the climate crisis in an intersectional way — with bills addressing sustainable agriculture and transportation, social justice, and democratic governance.
On December 3, Lee Williams will walk us through the Green New Deal Virginia coalition’s bills for the 2021 legislative session. RSVP for the meeting here.
A retired critical care nurse and lifelong environmentalist, Lee has been working in the environmental justice space—with a diverse array of organizations—for a decade. She works to advance policy that will effectively tackle climate change, and also move us away from the current economic system to an equitable and sustainable one. She is the mother of three amazing adult children and a one-eyed horse.
