At the margins of the Women of Europe Awards 2020 <[link removed]>, the European Movement International and the European Women’s Lobby are organising a side event entitledWomen on the Web: Online empowerment in the Covid-19 era and beyond <[link removed]>, which will be held online on Tuesday, 1 December 2020 (16:00-17:30 CET).

The digital sphere can be an empowering space in our society and democracy, and, in light of the current pandemic, the internet has become a lifeline for many. At the same time, girls and women face an increasing amount of abuse and discrimination on digital platforms. Since much of our daily lives, work, access to news and information, communication, and political debates now take place online, creating a safe and inclusive online space is more urgent than ever.

How can we enhance actions at the EU level against the rise of gender inequality and gender-based violence online? How can civil society, social media platforms, and the EU work better together to protect the safety and rights of women online and help make cyberspace more inclusive and diverse?
