Yesterday, we got big news from the Biden-Harris Transition.
John Kerry, who co-chaired a climate task force with AOC, was appointed as climate czar! And Janet Yellen, who dropped the hammer on Wells Fargo as Fed Chair, will be Treasury Secretary!
This shows that the hard work of progressives has paid off, and there's more to come: Congresswoman Deb Haaland would be an inspiring, game-changing, progressive, incredible, hulking choice to head up the Department of the Interior.
The Department of the Interior plays a crucial role in our public lands, our national parks, and the federal government's relationships with Tribal Nations. Haaland has far better expertise than any corporate lobbyist for Interior Secretary.
She is Vice Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands -- where she chaired some of the first hearings on climate change in the House in over a decade. She was also Tribal Administrator of the Pueblo of San Felipe before being one of the first Native American women elected to Congress.
Elizabeth Warren says Deb has a "top-notch command of policy." She passed numerous bills on Tribal rights and natural resources through Congress and into law. Yesterday, Republican colleagues from Oklahoma and Alaska praised her work.
The New York Times reports, "The Progressive Change Institute, a group aligned with Senator Elizabeth Warren, sent an extensive list on Friday to Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s transition team that included about 400 recommended names for positions in his administration."
Deb Haaland was high on that list. She would make an excellent Cabinet member in the Biden / Harris Administration -- and the first Native American ever to serve in the Cabinet.
JOIN MY SIGN-ON MESSAGE: "We support Congresswoman Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior."
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
