Friend, our marathon election year isn’t over yet.
With control of the United States Senate in the balance, our team in Georgia has been forced to dramatically increase the volume and scope of our Election Protection program for the upcoming runoff election.
And that’s because it’s never been more crucial to ensure that EVERY voter is able to cast their ballot -- especially in light of partisan operatives’ baseless claims and attempts to sow doubt about the integrity of our elections, a multitude of lawsuits, and disinformation online.
This will be one of the most high-stakes and contentious elections our state has ever seen -- and to top it all off, we’re holding it during the worst health and economic crisis in our lifetimes, with politicians openly opposing peoples’ right to vote safely from home.
But we bear an absolutely necessary responsibility -- to make sure that no voter is silenced during this hugely important runoff election. The world is watching, and we absolutely cannot let them down.
Here’s where all this leaves us and why I’m writing with such urgency: right now, we are in the midst of a massive Election Protection push -- only weeks after we put nearly all we had into the general election. We have no choice but to amp up our work ahead of the January 5th runoff election, to ensure that every eligible Georgia voter -- whether they’re Democratic, Republican, or Independent -- is able to vote this year.
Friend, I saw what a successful Election Protection program looked like during the November election, and this work starts with each of us doing our part.
We had hundreds of volunteers stationed at in-person polling places -- and thousands more volunteers contacting voters directly with rapid-response text messages or watchdogging social media sites for vote-suppressing disinformation.
We made a difference for tens of thousands of Georgia voters, but we’ll need a big infusion of resources to keep our Election Protection program operating at this scale until January.
We’re expecting more volunteers than ever to step up and join our Election Protection team -- and our top priority is securing the necessary resources to train, equip, and place every single person who has signed up.
This will, frankly, take a larger investment than we were prepared for, especially after the work we did during the general election -- but it’s an investment we are absolutely thrilled to make. It’s nothing short of inspiring that so many people are willing to volunteer to protect our democracy -- not to mention it’s absolutely necessary.
But that’s why I must come to you today, Friend. I’m personally asking you if you can sponsor an Election Protection volunteer today for just $50 and enable us to meet this moment.
$50 is what our field team reports it costs to onboard one additional volunteer -- and with your help, we intend to put to work everybody who steps up. So whether you can sponsor one volunteer, multiple volunteers, or just want to chip in what you can to help -- your contribution will make an immediate, direct impact on thousands of voters.
I’m so grateful that so many have stepped up -- and I’m glad to know I can count on you to provide what’s needed to make good on their commitment.
Thanks for all you do,
Aunna Dennis, Executive Director
