Team, I’m reaching out today to share one of my top priorities for next year: lowering prescription drug prices.

For far too long, pharmaceutical companies have been allowed to gouge sick Americans as a way to drive up their own executive salaries and bottom line. That must end now.

Nobody should have to decide between getting treatment with a lifesaving drug or going broke in the wealthiest country in the world. Earlier this year, I took big pharma CEOs to task on these unethical practices in a Congressional hearing, and I’ll be bringing that same vigor to legislation that lowers prices across the board.

Last year, I worked closely with the late Rep. Elijah Cummings to introduce legislation that would dramatically lower prescription drug prices and save Medicare $345 billion. We partnered on this effort for more than a decade, even meeting with President Trump in 2017 to try to shore up support for the bill.
