2009 was a bad year for us. So were 2010 and 2011. Republicans held gerrymandered majorities in the General Assembly, held a majority of Virginia’s seats in Congress, and were in control of all 3 statewide positions: governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general.

Virginia was one of the most conservative states in the country, but with hard work from generations of staffers, amazing Democratic candidates winning in local elections, and a commitment to building a strong state party from grassroots volunteers and donors like you, we have turned our Commonwealth blue.

Now, as you may know already, the race for 2021 has started already. Amanda Chase is the leading GOP candidate for Governor and she’s spent the past year running Donald Trump’s playbook in Virginia: Attacking COVID-19 safety measures and spreading dangerous conspiracy theories.

Kirk Cox is no less extreme. He spent his career in the General Assembly blocking Democratic priorities like Medicaid expansion, the ERA, a minimum wage boost, and more. Now he’s vowing to do the same thing from the Governor’s Mansion.

This is why I’m asking for your support today. Right-wing extremists have taken over the Republican Party, and now they’re running to lead our Commonwealth. We need to make sure that there is a Democratic leadership in Virginia for years to come, and I hope you’ll support us along the way.
