With Congress back in session for the fall, we wanted to take a moment to remind our partners engaged in immigration advocacy about a resource that we hope you will find helpful in your work, our report, Inside the Numbers: How Immigration Shapes Asian American and Pacific Islander Communities. The report, which was released this summer, details the diversity of the immigrant population within the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.
Over 12 million Asian immigrants and 220,000 Pacific Islander immigrants live in the United States, yet they are often overlooked in domestic policies and immigration policy. In order to protect our communities against anti-immigrant policies and effectively advocate for laws and policies that welcome and benefit AAPI immigrants, we need to build greater understanding of the AAPI immigrant population. Inside the Numbers provides disaggregated data on Asian American and Pacific Islander ethnic groups, background on the immigration pathways AAPIs take to come to the United States, analysis of the fractures in our immigration system, and recommendations for policy change.
Our website also features interactive online content, including a map that provides additional details about the size of the AAPI immigrant population by county.
