Help Hold Wildlife Services Accountable

Animal Legal Defense Fund

Dear John,

For years, concerned residents have voiced their outrage over the killing of Canada geese rounded up in parks across Denver. Today the Animal Legal Defense Fund filed suit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) under the Freedom of Information Act over a lack of transparency in a contract between Wildlife Services, a program of the USDA, and a Colorado slaughterhouse that outlines plans for slaughtering these geese.

Millions of native wild animals, including geese, coyotes, and mountain lions, are killed indiscriminately by Wildlife Services. Wildlife Services kills more than one million animals annually, costing taxpayers more than $100 million per year, using outdated, cruel methods not grounded in science.

Unfortunately, the contract concerning the slaughtering of the geese isn’t an isolated incident. Wildlife Services routinely obscures the truth about its methods and the extent of its killing because it knows the public doesn’t supports its methods.

As a taxpayer, you have the right to know how Wildlife Services uses your dollars and whether its methods are humane and science-based.  If you agree that Wildlife Services should operate with transparency, sign our petition to the USDA today.

Thank you for helping hold the USDA accountable for its treatment of wild animals.

For the animals,

Daniel Waltz
Senior Staff Attorney
