CNN has reported that Donald Trump’s campaign is preparing to launch a “messaging blitz” of political misinformation to rally support for his baseless claims that the election results were rigged in favor of Joe Biden.
“The goal of the messaging blitz is to raise enough doubt about the results that secretaries of state in battlegrounds feel pressure to open investigations or call on their own for recounts -- something that would prolong the process and potentially give the campaign more time to advance its litigation through the courts.”
After four years with this raging narcissist in the White House, we knew better than to expect Trump to leave peacefully -- but his latest ploy to undermine our democracy is catching on. Trump’s supporters have been holding “Stop the Steal” rallies in battleground states, claiming that the results are illegitimate and demanding recounts of only “legally cast votes” -- it seems they hope election officials will just throw out all Democratic mail-in ballots.
Even though Trump’s claims are not backed by evidence, CNN has warned that his team could “run out the clock enough to put forward a Republican slate of electors in key states where President-elect Joe Biden won the popular vote,” especially since state laws vary on whether they can. After the immense work we’ve put in, we refuse to let Trump use his media tactics to defy the will of the American people; but after such a challenging election cycle for Democrats, we simply don’t have the funds we need to correct his lies at a wide scale.
