Fossil fuel companies have held our planet and our democracy hostage for too long. They’ve buried evidence, bankrolled public officials, and put billions of people at risk—exacerbating a climate crisis that now threatens life on Earth.
But a new generation is leading the charge for change—and calling on all of us to join them this Friday, Sept. 20 in the largest climate action in history, the Global Climate Strike.
People throughout the world, including thousands here in Colorado, will walk out of work, school, and business as usual to demand bold climate action from our elected leaders. I’ll be striking in Denver.
We have less than 12 years left to keep global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius. An increase of even half a degree beyond that point would prove devastating—making storms, floods, droughts, heat waves, and wildfires even more frequent and more destructive.
In spite of all the evidence, Republicans like Cory Gardner are blocking climate action. Even some Democratic candidates are proposing only incremental reform.
That’s not enough.
We must flip the Senate and pass a Green New Deal. That will happen only if we replace Cory Gardner with a climate champion.
In the words of youth activist Gretha Thunberg, “our house is on fire.” It’s time we acted like it.
