In two weeks, hundreds of young people from 18 states across the south will all come together in Nashville for Sunrise’s South Regional Summit. Together we’ll build off the momentum of the global climate strike and prepare for the next year of organizing for a Green New Deal as we head into 2020.
Since June, we’ve already hosted three other regional summits and trained over 1,200 new leaders in the movement -- including hundreds who had no experience with Sunrise before the summits, and are now building hubs and leading climate strikes in their communities. Now, it’s your turn.

Young people--Gen Z and Millennials--will together make up the largest block of eligible voters in 2020. That means our generation could have the power to decide the 2020 election -- all we need to do is harness it.
At the South Regional Summit, we’ll lay out the details of our plan to do just that and give you all the training you need to become a leader in our movement.
At the start of the summit, we’ll gather together in Nashville at the Muslim American Community Center to train. Those new to Sunrise will learn about our history, strategy, and plan to win a Green New Deal. Meanwhile, others will get the chance to choose from a list of specialized breakout trainings on skills like recruitment, canvassing, creative action planning, press and media, public speaking, and more.
And we’ll all come together for a training on how to carry the momentum of the global climate strike forward into 2020. We have a plan to keep holding nationwide climate strikes every few months until election day. By continuing to strike, we’ll show the candidates that if they want the youth vote, they need to make the Green New Deal their top priority.
At the summit, experienced Sunrisers will go through all the details of how to plan a local climate strike, from recruitment to logistics on the day of. Then, you’ll have the chance to break out into regional teams and immediately build strategies and plans to bring the climate strikes to your communities.
Our generation could decide the 2020 election. We have a plan to harness that power, and you are an essential part of it. Train to become a leader in our movement at the South Regional Summit, Sept 28-30 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The coming year has the potential to make or break our movement. We only have 11 years to stop the climate crisis, and in order to do that, we need to elect a President and Congress in 2020 who will make the Green New Deal a top priority.
But we know that our generation has the power to do it. And you can help make it happen.
