Pumpkin pie. Mashed potatoes. Turkey. Green beans. Corn casserole. Cranberry sauce.

Food is one of the biggest highlights of any Thanksgiving celebration. But this year, Thanksgiving is looking a lot different for most folks and in more ways than one.

Fresh food is a basic component of a healthy diet. But because of the economic downturn brought on by the COVID-19 crisis, more and more working families are struggling to afford basic necessities like food.

In my home of Philadelphia, food insecurity is up 60 percent this year. Feeding America projects the number of people who are food insecure in 2020 could rise to more than 50 million, including 17 million children.

I'm fighting to ensure there is no shortage of food in our country. If you're with me, add your name if you agree that families in Philadelphia and communities across the U.S. need to have access to fresh, healthy food right in their own neighborhood.

Having access to food is not a partisan issue, it's a moral one. That's why I was proud to lead the effort in Harrisburg that created the Fresh Food Financing Initiative to promote the growth of supermarkets and fresh food access in food deserts.

Food insecurity is an ongoing issue, but COVID-19 has exacerbated these inequities. Congress has an obligation to support folks who are struggling to put food on the table.

This crisis is an opportunity to work together to address food insecurity, as well as expand access to healthy foods in our rural and urban communities. Please add your name now to join me in this fight.
