Dear Reader,
I'm new to PublicSource: I started here in July as the membership and development coordinator. But I'm a lifelong Pittsburgher who cares deeply about our area, so it’s been a joy to connect with a community of people who value thoughtful stories and factual coverage of our region. In an era of rampant misinformation, knowing that our readership and our members value the kind of content that PublicSource offers gives me hope. I also love knowing that there are no paywalls here; everyone has access to our stories, regardless of their ability to financially support the work. If our coverage connects you to our region's residents and inspires you to positive action the way it does for me, I invite you to act on that feeling by donating during the Give Big Pittsburgh event on Tuesday, Dec. 1.Â
The event runs all day, and gifts of all amounts are welcome. I know there are other local causes you care about as well, and that's wonderful! You can use this one page to make gifts to as many organizations as you want that day.
The especially wonderful thing about giving during this event is that your gift to PublicSource goes even further. As part of the NewsMatch campaign, gifts are doubled and new recurring donations are matched x12! We’re working toward a goal of receiving $21,500 in matched donations by Dec. 31, with the potential to receive a total of $43,000. That amount would make a huge difference in the sustainability of our work in 2021. We’re over 25% of the way there, but we only have a few weeks left to seize this important opportunity.Â
I don’t know about you, but I have a lot on my mind these days, and my memory isn’t always tip-top, so I definitely need reminders to keep on track. If you’re in the same boat, just RSVP to our event on Facebook, and you’ll get a notification on Dec. 1 so that you don’t miss out. Or, you can go to the Give Big Pittsburgh site and click the calendar icon on the right side of the page to add the event to your calendar. On the day of the event, just go to the Give Big Pittsburgh site to make your gift. Â
I’ll end with one final thought: if PublicSource wasn’t around, would you feel more hopeful about Pittsburgh’s future, or less? I know what my answer is, and it’ll lead me to make a gift on Tuesday, Dec. 1. I hope the same is true for you.  Â
Thanks for your readership and support!Â
Sincerely,
Alyia
