Hi John,
Today, I am officially announcing my run for Manhattan Borough president! It’s time for a forward-thinking leader who will make our city’s recovery a priority. As an urban planner with experience managing public parks and spaces and overseeing housing, economic development and disaster relief for the State of New York, I am running for Manhattan Borough President to create a more equitable, sustainable, and livable City.
But I'll need your help to get there.
The borough president isn’t a figurehead. She has a real impact on creating affordable housing, championing climate justice policies, and enhancing our quality of life. Through community board appointments and statutory powers, the borough president can empower communities to solve our biggest challenges. Together with residents from every corner of our borough, the borough president plans, advocates, and implements real change that improves people’s lives. My experience leading some of New York’s largest initiatives has prepared me to take on this role.
Manhattan has always been a welcoming place for me, but I worry about the city we’re leaving for my daughter’s generation.
Money alone can’t solve our problems. We need a plan for equitable revitalization that makes the most out of a limited amount of space. We can’t go back to the inequality of the past - not when almost a million women left the workforce in September alone, and when the pandemic exposed challenges that Black New Yorkers and other people of color have long experienced.
Everyone has a role to play in making our city liveable and equitable, in supporting deeply affordable housing for struggling New Yorkers, and in protecting our most vulnerable communities from climate disaster. We have to meet these challenges together.
This is why I’m running.
Can we count on your support to launch a strong campaign today?
Thank you for standing with me.
