Friend,

With rising cases, hospitalization, and, tragically, deaths, Michigan is in the middle of one of the most difficult periods since the start of the pandemic.

Instead of trying to protect our communities from COVID-19, Republicans are focused on doing everything they can to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Michigan voters by overturning the election results.

You can see that in Wayne County, where two Republican Board of Canvassers members have been trying to rescind their vote certifications. The move has no legal impact, but it does underscore how far Republicans are willing to go to undermine our democracy.

You saw that yesterday, as two prominent Michigan Republicans traveled to the White House to meet with Donald Trump to discuss how to silence the voices of Michigan voters who chose Joe Biden by more than 150,000 votes to be our next President.

History will judge these Republicans harshly for their failure to stand up to Donald Trump and protect our democracy. As I said in a joint statement with members of the Michigan Democratic Congressional Delegation, the attempts by Michigan Republicans to disenfranchise voters -- particularly people of color -- are shocking and unacceptable.

If you’re as angry as I am about their actions, here’s what you can do about it.

This Monday, November 23rd, the Michigan Board of State Canvassers is meeting to certify the election results. The meeting will be open to the public and streamed live online.

As soon as the links are public, I’m going to send you an email with more on where you can participate, comment and watch the meeting -- but until then, please head here to learn more about the Michigan Board of State Canvassers and to submit a public comment.

Look, these are very challenging times, and this was a long, bitter election. But as long as forces are threatening our democracy, our work isn’t done. Thank you ahead of time for staying in this critical fight -- if we keep standing together, I know we can protect our vote from these shameless, anti-democratic attacks.

Thank you,

Debbie
