Folks,

There have been many great joys in my life: When I met my wife Julie, serving the people of Utah's 4th in Congress, and, of course, bacon. But the greatest moments of my life have been when each of my children were born, and the time I was able to spend with them afterwards.

Every parent knows the moments after your child is born aren't just precious -- they're critical for bonding and recovery. Julie and I were fortunate enough to be able to spend time with our children after they were born. I remember how valuable that time was, and I want every parent in Utah and across the country to have that same opportunity.

Our current laws shortchange our families and lag far behind the rest of the developed world. The standards in other countries are between 30 and 50 weeks of paid leave. Right now in this country, parents are only guaranteed 12 weeks of unpaid leave -- and depending on where they work, some Americans aren't guaranteed any leave at all.

This is hurting our families and our children's futures, and we can do better. It's long past time for us to pass real family leave laws in this country. Sign on to my petition asking Congress to act. >>
