John,

While the voters clearly chose Joe Biden to be our next president, it’s clear that President Trump has no intentions of leaving office quietly.

Not only is he stirring up a lot of dust over unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud, he is also working furiously to push through major policy changes before President-elect Biden takes office in January.

One alarming example of this is his administration's relentless push to sell off drilling rights in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) before his term expires. The Trump Administration recently announced that they are starting the process of selling off leases to oil companies to start drilling in ANWR. This process could finalize on January 17th, just three days before Joe Biden takes the oath of office.

John — This midnight push by the Trump Administration is no surprise. They’ve made clear for years that they will do anything to sell off extraction rights to ANWR. In 2019, a Trump Administration official even brushed aside concerns that drilling in the Arctic Refuge would harm the climate by saying, “there isn’t a climate crisis.”

Rushing through drilling in ANWR is a bad deal for our planet, but also a bad deal for taxpayers. Because oil prices are currently at historic lows, these priceless lands will auction off for pennies — leaving taxpayers with less accessible public lands but no meaningful change in gas prices.

I’ve been a part of the fight to protect the Arctic Refuge for years, John. In 2018, I signed a letter to the Interior Secretary to demand we not sacrifice ANWR. Last year, I proudly supported legislation that would protect ANWR.

But now we need to go full throttle on this fight. Will you stand with me in protecting the priceless Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by pitching in a contribution to this fight? [[link removed]]

Yours,
Matt
