"But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, 'And who is my
neighbor?'"

It's clear from the context of this scripture that the lawyer asking
the question seeks to diminish or limit the scope of who counts as his
neighbor. Jesus answers with the story of the Good Samaritan, upending
conventional expectations and getting to the heart of the question.
Jim Wallis' newest book Christ in Crisis also goes to the heart of
this question. He writes, "My worldview has always been most changed
by two things: being in places I was not supposed to be, and meeting
people I was not supposed to meet." Read "Who Is My Neighbor," an
extended excerpt from Wallis' book, in the November issue of
Sojourners magazine.
