Hi friend --
There’s an international climate summit happening in December -- and the U.S. won’t be attending.
Donald Trump’s anti-climate crusade has been a feature of his presidency. He’s called climate change a hoax, pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement, and rolled back (or is in the process of rolling back) over 100 environmental rules meant to rein in big corporations and safeguard our natural world.
The good news is that President-elect Joe Biden has a plan to get America back on track with -- and even ahead of -- our peers. As POLITICO reports, Biden’s team has “the most ambitious climate change policies of any incoming American administration, including a ‘100 percent clean energy economy’ and ‘net-zero emissions no later than 2050.’”
But our neighbors and allies are rightfully skeptical. As POLITICO further reports, “While leaders around the world may trust Biden’s intentions, they will have to make their own plans not knowing if he can deliver his $2 trillion dollar clean energy campaign plan and other critical policies to cut American emissions in face of a deeply divided Congress.”
Deja vu all over again, right? Wrong. Because while the rest of the world shakes its head at GOP obstruction, the sea levels are rising ever higher. The storms are getting ever fiercer.
And we are running out of time.
Let’s make the most of this chance at change. Let’s help Joe Biden deliver on his mandate over the opposition of the Republicans consigned to rearrange deck chairs and count their money while the Titanic goes under.
