Joe Biden is gearing up for a round of presidential cabinet picks -- the confidants who will lead his administration.

To date, only 81 women have served as presidential advisers compared to nearly 300 men. We need that to change. As Biden has previously stated, “we have to make sure that our leadership and our institutions actually look like America.” And the list of contenders seems to live up to that promise.

Among those who could lead us in the next four years are Elizabeth Warren in the Treasury Department, Tammy Duckworth in the Defense Department, Susan Rice in the State Department, and Amy Klobuchar in the Agriculture Department, along with a number of other women Biden is considering to take a pivotal role.

It’s often said that women are the future, but it’s becoming abundantly clear that women are the present -- and we might soon see women emerge as the primary face of leadership in our country’s federal agencies.

But John, that will only happen if we make our voices heard. Biden’s team is also considering a number of Republican men and business executives for these positions -- men who can keep the status quo and a conservative base happy. What’s more, we know that Mitch McConnell will likely reject any woman nominee he deems “too progressive” for his taste. And right now we don’t have the support we need to amplify our demands.

We made significant strides for women’s representation this election, but we can’t get complacent. You know that for too long, the men who control our political system have hoped that women will be content with the bare minimum -- and we’re about to change that. But only with your help.
