Hello, Friends —

This week, the House was back in session, with a busy legislative schedule. On Friday, the House Armed Services Committee held a hearing about the endless, costly war in Afghanistan.

For decades, Northwest Florida has had a history of training and educating some of the finest servicemen our country has to offer. We cannot send the next generation to die in Afghanistan. Our heroic servicemen deserve better, and the enduring prosperity of our nation depends on it. I applaud President Trump’s decision to draw down U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq to 2,500 in each country.

I have been a vocal opponent of “forever wars” throughout my time in Congress, and reiterated that position on Friday. My remarks are below:

MODERNIZING OUR MILITARY MISSION

NAS Whiting Field has announced that it will be buying an additional 36 helicopters in a $171 million contract. Most of these will be Th-73A helicopters to train student aviators.

Additionally, the Air Combat Command announced that Eglin Air Force Base will serve as a centerpiece in developing America’s capabilities in electronic warfare.

I am proud that Northwest Florida continues to be a national hub for military innovation, and I am honored to represent so many of our nation’s bravest patriots.

MATT GAETZ: Republicans Are Wrong On Remote Voting

This week, Republicans and Democrats will meet to elect their caucus leadership and pass caucus rules. Much like a vote on the high school homecoming court, it is a process that matters very little to most of us, and everything to the few who will be bestowed vaunted titles and crowns of one form or another.
