I called my book “Endgame: Inside the Impeachment of Donald J. Trump” because I knew this year’s election would conclude a crucial chess match in which either democracy and truth would prevail or America would slide further into Trumpist authoritarianism.

As we approach the holidays, we can take comfort knowing that democracy and truth won.

As President Trump’s final weeks in the White House dwindle and we look forward to a brighter future with President Joe Biden, it’s important that we remember the lessons impeachment taught us: speaking truth to power is heroic, and nobody - not even the President of the United States - is above the law.
