Natural disasters. COVID-19. Now is the time to help.

What happens now is critical. In places like Guatemala
facing an acute crisis, and in more than 40 countries where help is

Life-threatening rains still saturate the earth, and damage continues to
devastate rural areas of Guatemala after Hurricanes Eta and Iota hit
Central America. Homes are destroyed, forcing communities to shelter in
camps with close quarters for cooking, eating and sleeping, increasing the
risk of COVID-19 transmission.

— responding to emergencies, rebuilding after disasters and investing in
long-term good.

Dear Friend,

In a record-breaking Atlantic storm season, intense flooding threatens
lives throughout Central America after Tuesday’s Hurricane Iota. Hurricane
Eta made landfall only days before, saturating the soil and leaving the
land at risk for catastrophic landslides.

The heavy rains have taken a deadly toll on the people of Guatemala, and
the losses continue. Mercy Corps’ Guatemala team is responding by
distributing food and essential supplies to evacuation centers. And we’re
mobilizing to provide additional aid to affected communities, as we assess
immediate and longer-term needs.

Mercy Corps responds to crises in more than 40 countries, helping families
and communities affected by disasters, violent conflict and the acute
impacts of climate change. [ [link removed] ]Give today to help provide urgently needed
relief including emergency cash, food, clean water and long-term support
to families and communities in places like Guatemala and around the world.

[ Please ]Please give
Mercy Corps Guatemala team members distribute supplies to evacuation
centers.
The impact of two storms in rapid succession is multiplied by COVID‑19.
Our Guatemala team has already been distributing hygiene supplies and
personal protective equipment in recent months to prevent infections. With
nearly 1 million people there affected by these storms, we’re now
concerned about accelerated spread of the virus in the days and weeks
ahead. Miriam Aguilar, Mercy Corps’ Guatemala representative, said as Iota
approached:

"The risk of COVID‑19 spreading will only increase as more seek refuge
in shelters, already crowded from the last storm. It is critical
families displaced by these storms have access to masks, hygiene
supplies and handwashing to prevent the spread of the virus and other
waterborne disease."

[ [link removed] ]Give now
Mercy Corps teams are already on the ground where help is most needed, as
we work to help people prepare for, protect against and recover from
crisis. [ [link removed] ]Your gift today to our Humanitarian Response Fund can help us
be there for communities after natural disasters in places like Guatemala
and Indonesia, farmers threatened by locust swarms and the impacts of
climate change in Kenya, families fleeing violence in Syria and Yemen —
and so much more.

Thank you for taking action to help us meet immediate needs in crises and
build a future where everyone can prosper. Your gift makes a difference.

With gratitude,
