Dear John,
Today, our culture is divided by the subject of human sexuality and what it means to be male and female. Those in our communities and churches face an array of questions regarding the purpose and meaning of marriage, as well as homosexuality and transgenderism.
Unfortunately, the contentious nature of these topics often discourages Christians from studying deeply what the Bible teaches and considering how God's Word can help us navigate these subjects.
While it can be tempting to disengage and avoid difficult conversations about sexuality -- and there is even pressure to adopt the culture's prevailing perspective on these issues -- Christians are called to speak the "truth in love" and be prepared to give an account for the hope that is within us, even when it is unpopular (1 Peter 3:15).

To this end, Family Research Council has published a resource titled "Biblical Principles for Human Sexuality: Survey of Culture, Scripture, and Church History." This resource outlines the Bible's teaching on marriage and sexuality by examining relevant passages. The publication also discusses homosexuality and transgenderism, two particularly important issues in today's culture. These issues should be examined in the proper context of what Christians actually believe about all of human sexuality -- not in isolation.
In short, the goal of this publication is to encourage God-honoring, faithful engagement from a biblical worldview. This booklet provides answers to these pivotal questions:
- How did we get here as a culture?
- What does Scripture say about human sexuality and being male and female? What did Jesus say about homosexuality and transgenderism?
- How should pastors, churches, and Christians appropriately engage with the current challenges at hand while also offering gospel hope?
- How does church history help us navigate the topics of marriage and sexuality?
- How should Christians respond to those who argue the Bible condones or permits same-sex marriage?
I hope this resource helps you think about human sexuality through the lens of Scripture and equips you to engage in a loving, convictional, and honorable way.
Sincerely,
David Closson Director of Christian Ethics and Biblical Worldview Family Research Council
