November 20, 2020 John -
I’ll keep this Friday email short and to the point: One year ago today, for the first time ever, the House Judiciary Committee passed the MORE Act -- which ends the federal prohibition of marijuana by removing it from the Controlled Substances Act -- on a bipartisan vote of 24-10.
If all things go according to plan, the full US House of Representatives next month will for the first time ever, consider and pass the MORE Act.
This is in no small part thanks to the tens-of-thousands of others who have sent messages to Congress in support of reform. With just two weeks left in this Congressional session, our records indicate that you have yet to tell your Representative that you support ending marijuana prohibition. So I’m asking you, once again, to consider sending a message in support of the MORE Act to reinforce our support in the days ahead of this scheduled floor vote.
It will take time, likely years, to build the necessary political and policy consensus in both chambers to advance this legislation into law, particularly given the ongoing and vocal resistance we face from Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
But here at NORML, we understand building power takes both tenacity and time. And the success of this upcoming House vote will accelerate that timeline.
So while we are fully expecting the House of Representatives to consider the MORE Act next month, it is imperative that you continue to urge them to keep their promises to the cannabis reform community. Become one of the tens-of-thousands of marijuana reform supporters who have sent a message now!
And don’t stop there! Share our action alert with your networks to get them to join you in contacting Congress and demanding an end to marijuana criminalization:
