A message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:
We are now midway through national lockdown and can see our local Covid cases continuing to fall as a result of the sacrifices and sensible response of local people. It means there?s a further twelve days of lockdown and although it can feel like a hard slog at times, I?m sure people will continue to do the right thing, follow the rules and play their part in stopping the spread of the virus. While now thankfully below the national average, the rate is not as low as we would like and our hospitals are still under pressure from patients being admitted with Covid-19, so we have to keep going.
We are awaiting an announcement from Government about what restrictions will be in place in Nottingham after lockdown lifts, but would hope there will be greater freedom and the chance for businesses to start to reopen. There?s also optimism around vaccines and people are being encouraged to apply for paid work supporting the potential roll-out of vaccines ? there?s more information here.

Grant applications for Nottingham businesses now open
Applications are now open for financial support for businesses affected by the tiered lockdown system and national lockdown. The Government grants are designed to support businesses forced to close or which have seen an adverse impact as a result of the restrictions to minimise the spread of Covid-19. Council staff have worked hard once again to provide the simplest grant application possible so businesses do not have to do unnecessary paperwork to receive the grants needed to support them and to help keep our city?s economy going. I would urge eligible businesses to apply for the grants here and to sign up for updates here ?

Plans in place to help vulnerable people and their carers through a Covid winter
Arrangements are in place to ensure that people relying on carers or in care homes, and the staff who look after them, are supported through the winter during the ongoing pandemic. The City Council puts a winter pressures plan in place every year in conjunction with health services to identify local needs and make sure services are in place to meet them. This winter is expected to be significantly more challenging due to the impact of Covid 19, which has particularly impacted on people with care and support needs, their families and carers and for those who provide care in people?s homes, care homes and within communities.
This plan, approved this week, gives them reassurance that we will continue to provide safe and responsive services throughout winter, as well as ensuring our social care workforce is supported and able to work safely as they provide the essential care services citizens rely on. See more here

Things to do during lockdown
We're all spending a lot more time at home at the moment which means we're having to come up with new ways to keep the kids entertained. With the absence of play dates, children's parties and their usual hobbies and activities, it can all start to feel a little dull. But there's so much you can do at home that kids can benefit from.
