Friends, As the first South Asian and Muslim American in the Virginia Senate, it has been an extraordinary honor to serve you in the General Assembly. I’ve had the opportunity to provide perspectives that are too often invisible or not understood in state government. However, I couldn’t have gotten here without grassroots supporters by my side.
Grassroots supporters helped our campaign succeed in 2019 and showed the appetite for true representation of our diverse community. This year, my team and I have worked hard to deliver on the people’s priorities. It’s been inspiring to be a part of the most progressive Virginia legislative session — we fought for justice and equity, and made real change for Virginians. Our efforts have been recognized nationally, and other states are working hard to do what Virginia has accomplished. We quickly transitioned from the 2020 legislative session to working remotely and supporting constituents as they navigated an unprecedented health and economic crisis. During the recent Special Session, we delivered on criminal justice and police reform; one of the bills passed was mine that granted local authorization to create strong Civilian Review Boards. Our work is possible thanks to grassroots supporters like you. Now, as I turn my focus to the 2021 General Assembly, I need your support once more. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go through immediately.
