friend,

Charles Koch’s new book, Believe in People: Bottom-Up Solutions for a Top Down World, was released this week. In the book, Koch offers up stories of people “from the bottom,” without acknowledging his part in creating the challenges and circumstances that many of them are up against. The book is his newest attempt at creating confusion around the real impact of his actions.

William H. Chafe Distinguished Professor of History and Public Policy, Nancy MacLean continues to teach us so much about the historical context, strategies, and tactics of the Koch network. This cadre manufactures and deploys disinformation. In The Disinformation Age: Politics, Technology, and Disruptive Communication in the United StatesNancy brings brilliant insight to the subject:

"Because one thing is abundantly clear from the available evidence: operations funded by Koch and his wealthy allies through organizations such as Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce and Donors Trust have relied on disinformation and manipulation to advance their agenda of radical transformation, leveraging the specter of a supposedly threatening “liberal elite” and strategic racism (what Ian Haney López calls “dog whistle politics”) to compensate for lack of persuasive evidence by inciting clannish responses."

The Koch network's use of disinformation is the very reason we organized over 20 national and regional groups to issue Charles Koch an open letter. Our letter has over 300 signatures and comments from everyday people like YOU refusing to fall for the latest political stunt. As Nancy teaches, ignoring Koch and his wealthy network's political ambitions places our democracy at risk.
