Dear John, As Transgender Awareness Week comes to a close today on the Transgender Day of Remembrance, we grieve for the many transgender and non-binary people we have lost to violence and hate here in Virginia and around the world. Today, we join together with friends, family, and community to honor and mourn those who are no longer with us. |

2020 has been a tough year. We have seen several federal LGBTQ protections rolled back, and Black, Latinx, and Indigenous trans communities have dealt with the worst brunt of the economic crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And, most disturbingly, it has been the deadliest year on record for transgender and non-binary people, with most of those lost being Black and Latina trans women. We invite you to keep their memory alive and read more about those we have lost due to anti-trans violence this year. Join us as we honor, remember, and cherish the global transgender and non-binary community today. Find a digital or socially-distanced event near you on EV's TDOR webpage. |

As we grieve, we are reminded of those who have paved the way for our community, like Marsha P. Johnson, Lou Sullivan, Monica Roberts, and so many others who have given us strength and hope. In addition, we honor the dozens of trans and non-binary organizations in Virginia, many of them Black-led, who have been building power at the local level for years. Check out EV's list of trans-led organizations and make sure to support their work. Despite the pain of our losses, we have seen trans and non-binary people step into power, and herald successes this year like never before. Our hearts are with you as we come together safely to mark our victories, mourn our lost ones, and heal our community. In Solidarity, All of us at EV |
