Mr Johnson says he wants to make London the "global centre for green finance". [1] But as long as The City of London keeps financing corporations’ drilling, fracking and mining around the world, London’s reputation for dirty finance isn’t going anywhere.
His plan isn’t good enough for several reasons. The funding is a drop in the ocean compared to what’s needed, and compared to the government bailouts that big polluters and banks have already received during the coronavirus pandemic. [2]
Two thirds of the public want the environment to be at the heart of our post-Covid economic recovery. [3] To make this a reality - we need the Bank of England to get on board, asap.
John, please will you help stop billion pound bailouts for big polluters and demand a fair, green recovery?
