It's Equal Pay Day. The day when women effectively stop being paid compared to men. .

Today the Fawcett Society released a report which shows that the UK is at a generational crossroads when it comes to Equal Pay and highlights the impact that coronavirus has had on women and work. This report outlines both the risks and opportunities when it comes to closing the gender pay gap. Here are some key stats from the report:
  • 43% of working women and 50% working BAME women are worried about their jobs or promotion.
  • 1 in 3 working mothers have lost work or hours due to childcare.
  • But the growing role for dads and flexible working as the new normal are signs of hope.

Here's how to make a statement this Equal Pay Day:

Wear a face mask

Can you wear an Equal Pay facemask? Draw, stick or sew your facemask and share the pictures on social media using the hashtag #EqualPay. Make sure you tag the Fawcett Society in it too.

Share it on social media
We'll be sharing all your Equal Pay pictures on social media along with all the important stats and facts from the day - make sure you follow our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and share them widely.

Sign the Petition
Last year we shared Kay's story with you - after ten years working as a chef for a catering company she found out she was being paid much less than a male colleague - even though they did the exact same job. She's calling for all women to have the legal Right to Know if they are being paid less than a male colleague for the same work - add your name to the petition now

Write to your MP
Last month the Equal Pay Implementation and Claims (EPIC) Bill was heard in Parliament - and it's gone through to a second reading. Write to your MP now and ask them to pledge their support for the Bill.
Thank you for your ongoing support – we couldn’t do this without you! Last year we had 50,000 people sign our petition in just 5 days and reached 500,000 on social media. Let’s see if we can reach even further this year. With your help we can achieve Equal Pay.

In solidarity and determination.
