President-Elect Joe Biden sent a clear message when he spoke at our Muslims Making Change: National Honors event last month: “Muslim American voices matter to our community and to our country.”

He went on to promise that, “as President, I'll work with you to rip the poison of hate from our society, to honor your contributions and seek your ideas.” We’re holding him to his word.

Our nation is at a watershed moment. Under the leadership of a new President, there is an opportunity to reform the institutions, laws and policies that have created an unequal system of justice and systemic inequality throughout all aspects of our lives — including schools, workplaces, access to healthcare, and the environment.

President-Elect Biden has already pledged to:

• End the Muslim Ban on “day one” of his presidency and reunite millions of American families torn apart by this cruel policy.
   
• Appoint Muslims to serve throughout the administration to ensure that we can help shape the policies that impact our daily lives. 
   
• Stop anti-Muslim bigotry by working across agencies and with Congress to prevent hate crimes, end religious profiling programs, and hold technology companies accountable for enabling white nationalist violence on their platforms.

These proposed personnel and policy changes are by no means exhaustive, but they represent a serious commitment to addressing some of the critical issues facing American Muslims.
