Dear John,
It’s been over two weeks since the November 3 election. Overall, this Election was a strong rebuke of discrimination and hatred and a celebration of what makes this nation strong: our diversity.
All across the country, we elected hundreds of women, LGBTQ people, and people of color who will represent those of us denied access to the places where important decisions are made about our lives.
Please join us in celebrating these victories and help us move forward by donating $21 today to fuel our work in 2021. [[link removed]]
Unfortunately, one of the great wishes of the 2020 Election did not come true. We did not see legislatures flip away from majorities of anti-LGBTQ lawmakers and become pro-equality states. For LGBTQ people, this raises significant fears.
In many of the Republican-held states, we have already seen anti-transgender bills pre-filed, including in Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas, each targeting transgender youth.
With the incoming Biden-Harris administration, we will have the relief of knowing we have federal government officials who won’t spend all their time coming up with new ways to demonize and harm transgender people. But, we know the fight for our rights will continue in the states in 2021.
No matter what happens, we will always have our voice, and when we share our stories, we win. Equality Federation and our state-based members are meeting right now to plan for what’s next. Know we will keep working every single day to build the movement that will carry us to justice and liberation.
We hope you’ll join us.
