Friend --
New Leaders Council is about building your community. It is about finding the places and spaces to come together with like-minded leaders to strengthen connections and work together for a more progressive future. This past weekend, was one of those moments as the NLC Black Caucus held their inaugural Retreat at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Conference in DC.

On Thursday night, the NLC Black Caucus hosted a Welcome Reception with #NLCFamily member Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, IL-14 at The Raben Group. As the youngest black woman to ever serve in the U.S. Congress, Rep. Underwood is a proud example of the passion, vision and conviction that NLC fellows and alumni embody. Our community was honored to connect with her at this event.

On Friday, NLC Black Caucus members took the CBCF stage for a panel conversation entitled Run Me My Money: 40 Acres and a Mule in Today’s Black America. The panel took a critical look through black millennial perspective on the need to provide restitution to the descendants harmed and who experienced historical trauma from slavery and its legacy. NLC Community members from Columbus, Detroit, Los Angeles, Nashville, Palm Beach and Virginia participated in the conversation in front of a packed house.

And on Saturday, NLC Black Caucus members held their inaugural internal retreat at the Kellogg Conference Hotel. The session focused on the future of the NLC Black Caucus and how they can continue to inform, educate, and empower NLC members to address issues and policies which directly impact the Black community.
We would like to extend a special thanks to our sponsors of the Black Caucus events: Coca-Cola, Kivitt, and the Raben Group.
