Friend--
Since the November 3rd
election, Trump has made baseless claims about the integrity of the
2020 election, even taking litigation against four states, including
Michigan for the TCF Center incident where right-wing agitators
aggressively attempted to stop ballot counting. The day after the election,
Detroit DSA joined with several organizations and hundreds of people
at the Detroit Department of Elections to make sure every vote was
counted long after election day. But the fight to ensure our democracy
continues.
Recently, after voting to certify election results,
Republicans on the Wayne County Election Board rescinded their votes
claiming "they had been bullied." When in reality they were called out
for their racism. At the certification meeting, State Representative
Elect Abraham Aiyash said it best, "your actions today made it clear
that you are okay with silencing the votes
of an 80% African American city...what that tells us [is you] are
deciding to enable and perpetuate the racist history of this
country."
This is just one of many attempts made by the Right
to steal the election and dismantle American democracy. We MUST
continue fighting for each and every vote to be counted
accurately. We will also continue to fight to expand democratic rights
to all.
While it
may feel like a relief that Trump will be out of office come January,
we still have work to do to win
Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, or real racial justice under the
Biden administration.
Establishment
Democrats like Biden and Harris have a long history of destructive
policies against Black and Brown communities, like Biden's 1994
Crime bill and Harris' record
on police killings, prisons and sex work. While the media
paints them as socialists, they are right of center at
best. This
means if we aren't collectively fighting for the rights of our
comrades, we likely won't see this administration take up defunding
the police or implementing single-payer healthcare, policies the
American working class desperately need, especially here in
Detroit.
Detroit DSA isn't going anywhere. We will
continue to organize for power here in Metro Detroit and mobilize
against capitalism. There's lots of actions and campaign work coming
down the pipeline soon, so keep an eye out for future emails inviting
you to join the fight!
